Jannes and Jambres

"Now as Jannes and Jannes wihtstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” 2Tim. 3:8. These are the enemies of God's Word. They are the ones who falsify the scriptures in

2Corinthiens 2,17, they are spoken of in Colossians 2, of whom Paul exhorts us to beware, they who rely on human tradition and the rudiments of the world, and not on Christ, having an appearance of wisdom. They are the savage wolves of whom Paul announced the introduction into the church to the elders of Ephesus in Acts 20, men teaching perverse things to draw away disciples after them. And the Holy Spirit speaks of them in many other places in the Bible.

But the picture that Paul gives of these men in this epistle to Timothy is the most striking: many qualifiers are given about them, including: "despisers of those that are good, highminded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof. Of this sort there are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth " 2Tim. 3:1-9. It is very dangerous to try and listen to them even a little! That is why in verse 5 he says: "From such turn away.”

Through the Holy Spirit, Paul was able to see in these men the spirit of Jannes and Jambres who were in the backyard of Pharaoh, as there are in each course, to give a boost to the size of the Prince. Both men cited, with their team, had everything they needed to oppose Moses, and even the same miracles that Moses could show to vindicate his divine commission.

"And the Lord spake unto Moses and and unto Aaron, saying, when Pharaoh shall speak unto you, shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. » Ex.7:8-12.

Moses is acting as per the Lord’s order; Jannes and Jambres are doing the same as per their enchantment: same result, the rode turns into a snake. But one observation: the snake that came through the Word of God is more powerful and swallows the snakes which came on enchantments. That is why the Lord always tells his child: fear nothing! When you see them working these false miracles, do not marvel! When you see them do great things, do not envy them! The Word of God in you is more powerful than all their charms!

So we see that those who are sent by God work everything in the Truth because they are themselves part of the Truth. But Jannes and Jambres, while opposing the Truth, perform miracles by magic. To this must the child of God recognize men who are sent by God: they bow down before the truth. Likewise, to this must the child of God recognize the magicians and enchanters: they oppose the Truth. The difference is not elsewhere: he prays and God hears him! he performs wonders! he is blessed and everybody can see! etc. All this is fine. But one question: through the God of Truth or magic? Wherever a miracle takes place, if there is not the Word of Truth, there is magic and enchantment.

When Saul had disobeyed God's Word, he nevertheless took the initiative to worship God through sacrifice, without knowing that he had made himself more odious than the magicians in the sight of the Lord. "And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath rejected you as king.” 1Sam. 15:22-23. The Lord God delights in obedience to His Word. Whoever serves God and does not obey the Word of God is already more than a magician, whoever resists the truth is an idolater.

It is a ‘thus saith the Lord!’ And it shows its outcomes. All those who try to worship God while opposing the Truth are sorcerers, soothsayers, idolaters, magicians like Jannes and Jambres, aware or unaware. They are already decreed so by the Oracle of the Lord. The qualifiers that Paul gave (we have already discussed them above) will just come to be noticed in their lives. In so far as they are magicians under the divine decree, God himself sends this magical power to enable them to perform miracles: "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believe not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” 2Th. 2:11-12. The greatest misfortune and the greatest curse to man, is to have a heart that resists or opposes the Truth; if in your church you delight in lie, God will provide you with everything you need (gifts, miracles, anointing, etc..) so that you may wrongly feel that God is with you.

While announcing these things, the Lord mentioned that these magicians and enchanters could nearly deceive even the elect! (Matthew 24:24) The issue is very delicate and should retain God’s children’s attention all round! Why and how witchcraft could deceive even the elect (if possible)? - The reason is very simple, this is a kind of magic in the name of Jesus: "For many will come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. » Mt. 24:5.

Jannes and Jambres of Egypt opposed Moses without using the name of Yahweh, they could not deceive the people of God, they were less dangerous because they were magicians recognized and treated as such.  But ever since, Jannes and Jannes changed their strategy and decided to work their magic in the name of the Lord for greater efficiency in their mission to beguile the children of God:

"Then the Lord said unto me, the prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them." Je.14:14. "I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed! I have dreamed!"Je.23, 25. "Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name have done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Mt. 7:22.

This is the reaction of the Lord to all those who perform magic in the name of Jesus: you commit iniquity (deliberate sin) by the fact of rejecting the Truth. It is not a question of prophesying in Jesus' name, it is not a question of casting out demons in Jesus' name, it is not a question of miracles in Jesus’ name, it is not even a question of exercising a ministry in the church in Jesus’ name, or singing for God in Jesus’ name; it is simply a question that Truth finds a place in your heart. "Behold thou desirest Truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.” Ps.51,6.
