Jude 3 “Beloved, when I gave
all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me
to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the
faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
Ep. 4:4-6 "There is one
body, and one Spirit, even as
ye are called in one hope of your calling; one
Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and
through all, and in you all."
One faith, which one? - Undoubtedly,
the Catholic will answer quickly: the Roman Catholic faith, and all others
similarly, each one confessing his religion. But they are all drowned by the introductory
scripture which indicates that this faith was delivered unto the saints
once for all. If it had been the Roman Catholic faith, then God would
have been Roman Catholic from the beginning! However, from the bible point of
view, it can’t be asserted that the saints of the Bible had been Roman
Catholic. Neither were they Lutheran, Jehovah's Witnesses, Baptists,
Methodists, Pentecostals, Adventists, branhamists, to quote but this few.
The one faith delivered to the
saints once and for all is none of these denominations; they appeared in the
course of history. Of course, when God says, "there is only one faith,"
it does not imply that men cannot invent
their own faith as they please! When God said to Abraham, "Take now thy son, thine
only son Isaac... because thou hast done this, and thou hast not withheld thy
son, thine only son ..." Gen. 22: 2,16; this does not mean that
Abraham had no other sons, but simply that God ignored them. To God, Abraham
had only one son, Isaac, because he is the one who came as a result
of the Word of God, he did not recognize the others who were born as
result of the interpretation of Sarah (Ishmael) or as result of the desire of
the flesh or blood or the will of man (John 1: 13).
It's likewise when God says, "there
is only one faith," it simply implies that God does not
recognize any other faiths which he, God, has not entrusted to the saints, but which
men themselves invented through their own interpretations, for the sake of
greed and glory.
What is it then? – It is the
one that was delivered to the saints once for all. When and how was
this faith delivered to the saints once and for all?
Jn. 1:1,14 "In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God ... And the Word
was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of
the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
God, in his love for mankind, did
not abandon them at the mercy of man to present his thoughts, interpretations, but
he sent to mankind his own Word which is God himself and by whom all things
were created. Anyone who claims to have faith that is approved by God, is expected
to believe only this Word that was in heaven and came into the world.
And coming into the world, he revealed
himself to those he had chosen as witnesses. When God raised Jesus from the
dead, he appeared "Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before
by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he
which was ordained of God to be the judge of quick and dead."Ac. 10:41-42.
Things are clear: the Word was in
heaven, and then it came down from heaven having taken the form of a man, that
man chose witnesses that he commanded to speak of him to mankind. Peter who
made this speech is one of the witnesses established, even the twelve apostles.
Every
true child of God must recognize and bow himself to the order established by
God. We receive the witness of God through Jesus Christ, and the testimony of
Jesus Christ through his holy apostles established by himself, and this
testimony is cast into the Bible. We do not receive the testimony of
God through men established by Vatican, by America or any other headquarters.
This is why Jude, one of the
twelve, exhorts us with confidence and strength to fight for that one faith that
God approves. Of course, if there is something to fight for, it implies
that there is also something to fight against: the faith that does not come
from God. All these beliefs we have mentioned, and other, that men have invented across
centuries are the enemies of biblical faith.
Every true Lord's sheep recognizes
the voice of their shepherd, which is none other than the testimony of the
apostles and prophets, not the voice of a particular denomination.
Every word that is in the least discrepancy with this testimony (i.e., the
Bible); he cannot recognize it, because it is not the voice of his amiable
shepherd, and he will reject it (John 10: 4-5).
If you feel blest, share and pour out the same blessings.
For the God’s love sake, share
with your friends.
This is only Part I, other parts
will follow, and your questions will help us to enrich.
