Ex. 20:1-5 “And God spake all
these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the
land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods
before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of
anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is
in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor
serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,…”
It is not to all this word is addressed, but only to
those God has brought out of the land of Egypt, of the house of bondage, in
accordance with Col. 1:13 “Who hath delivered us from the
power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son.” and Ep.
2: 1-10 “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;… But
God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when
we were in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are
saved)…”
Therefore, to all of us that
recognize we are recipients of the deliverance by God the Father, through Jesus
Christ our Lord and Savior, from the bondage of sin, he says, your
whole heart will be unto me, you shall not let yourself be influenced by any person
other than myself, my word and Spirit of Truth. In delivering us from
the house of bondage he also separated us so that we should be holy for him, as
it is written Le. 20:26 “And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the Lord am
holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.”
Yet, it is him who, alone, is
holy and whose word alone, therefore, can make holy, Jn. 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
The word of any man, whosoever, is not holy, is not truth, but only the word of
our Father is holy and true, Ro. 3:4 “Let God be true, but every man a
liar.” Whosoever therefore will not acknowledge that such a man
(your pastor, your bishop, your apostle, your cardinal, your Pope, your
reverend, etc..) is a liar, he will make the same man his God, and he thereby transgresses
the commandment: “thou shalt have no other gods before me,” and thus
excites the jealousy of the God of his salvation. God is firm, Je.
17:5 “Thus saith the Lord ; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and
maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord!”
It is so clear, every man who
trusts in man (or a religious organization) thrusts, by that very fact, his
heart away from the Lord.
We have an example everlastingly speaking,
that of the Jewish people who rather followed the preaching of their
pastors to crucify the Lord of glory. They trusted in their religious
leaders instead of trusting in God. And thus they falsely flattered their
conscience that in faithfully serving their churches, they were in perfect
communion with God. He had sent to them his Word made flesh, the Way, the
Truth and the Life, the Holy One of God.
Pilate gave him testimony that he
found in him no fault, Lu. 23:14-15 “And Pilate, when he had called together the
chief priests and the rulers and the people, said unto them, Ye have brought
this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, having
examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things
whereof ye accused him.”
Mc. 15:11 “But the chief priests
moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.”
Mt. 27: 20 “But the chief
priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas and destroy
Jesus.”
Ec. 3: 15 “That which hath
been is now,” says
Ecclesiastes, “and God requireth that which is past.” This is especially true as we see exactly the
same thing again today. Religious leaders ask the people to reject
God and his Word of Truth, which alone cannot mislead, and accept their own
interpretations. And the people willingly obey the voice of their
pastors instead of obeying God. People cannot distinguish (Lev. 20: 25)
between what is clean and what is unclean, between the true and the false,
between the Word of God and the word of their religious organizations.
But we have seen above, only God is true, only God is holy, God alone is pure.
But they confuse all, the word of God with the particular interpretation of a
particular leader, and it brings about a particular church. And as many specific
interpretations as there are, so many also are specific churches. Religious
leaders “use
their tongues, and say, He saith” Je. 23:31; and people tolerate!
Thus, people made their own
churches and pastors gods to excite the jealousy of God, and God has abandoned them
all, as he did also with Israel, as they requested themselves, Mt
27:25 “His blood be on us, and on
our children.” But God who never gets tired in his love, reiterates his
call, Es.
2:22 “Cease ye from man…” Mal. 3:7 “Return unto me, and I will return unto you
…”
It is no point luring ourselves
in imagining blessings: God actually blesses those that trust Him in truth Es.
65:16 “That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God
of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear in the God of the truth.”
If you feel blessed, share and pour out the same blessings.
