"Blessed are the pure in
heart: for they shall see God!" Mt.5,8. All will not see God,
but only those who are pure in heart. God looks at the Heart, not appearances.
"Look
not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have refused
him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward
appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. "1Sam.16,7. "But, O LORD
of hosts, that judgest righteously, triest the reins and the heart" Jr.11,20.
And he seeks one thing when he probes
the heart, the truth, the only way to eternity. "Behold, thou desirest
truth in the inward parts" Ps.51,6.
David understood properly that
mystery, so he watched over his heart more than anything, and spent most of his
time to beg the Lord: "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try
me and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me
in the way everlasting." Ps.139,23-24.
Those who have the truth in their
heart are straight, honest, pious and pure before God. It is through the truth
that our heart is sanctified: "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy
word is truth." Jn.17,17. "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing of water by the Word, that he might present it to himself a
glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it
should be holy and without blemish" Ep.5,26-27. We are washed
and made clean by the water of the Word: the Lord told his disciples "Now
ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you" Jn.15,3.
The work of the Lord is to speak his Word of Truth, to instill it into our
heart, so that by it, our heart is purified, and thus we qualify to see the
holy God.
The water of the Word cleanses us
and purifies our hearts, what does it cleanse them from? – from idolatry:
"Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean, from
all your filthiness and from all your idols will I cleanse you." Ez.36,25.
When
the truth is not in the heart, but ungodly speech, the spiritual life we live
is idolatry. God requires that we worship him in Spirit and in Truth
(Jn.4,23-24),
otherwise, the worship is rendered to idols. Such think they are worshiping
God, but they are worshiping the idols of their hearts, if they are not in the
truth, and in the last day the Lord will tell them openly: "I
never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity" Mt.7,23.
God feels comfortable to live in
a pure heart, to place his Spirit in it: "A new heart also will I give you, and
a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of
your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within
you, and I cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and
do them" Ez.36,26-27. He
who has expressed the sigh to be probed and tested by God, who is thirsting for
truth in the bottom of his heart, God is faithful, who sprinkles on him the
pure water which purifies his heart from all defilements and idols in the
process of rebirth. The word creates a new heart, a heart of flesh which is not
rebellious to the ordinances of God any longer, but which finds pleasure in
observing the laws of the Lord without effort or stress.
Without God, nothing is holy,
just, pure, honest and upright, yet God is in His Word, and His Word is Truth.
To have a pure heart, the truth must dwell in the heart. Moses was in
one of his usual places he always trampled, and the sheep that grazed there were
having a poo there every day. This place was gross, had no special thing, and
was naturally characterized by any sort of uncleanness. But a given time, when
God's presence was reported there, this place was declared a holy ground: "And
he said: Draw not nigh hither, put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the
place whereon thou standest is holy ground" Ex.3,5.
Our heart is naturally wicked and
always inclined towards evil: "And God saw that the wickedness of
man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his
heart was only evil continually" Ge.5,5. It is only when the Word of God
enters the heart that it is cleansed, and God does not allow anything else to
approach this holy ground. Therefore, wise men beware lest they should
mix their own thought - only evil continually – with the thought of God. When
the thought of God has found room deep in your heart, the heart is pure and any
thought of a religion or theologian must now stay far away from your heart.
At Mount Sinai, it was the same.
People could walk in the mountain, as they would like, even graze their sheep,
or exercise any other activity that it was possible to. But on the occasion of
the presence of God in the mountain, read the requirements and restrictions
that were given! (Exodus 19 and 20): they were to wash their
clothes, refrain from intercourses with their wives for three days, and in
spite of all this sanctification of the body, no one should touch the edge of
the mountain, fear of dying: animal or man. They complied with all these
requirements and restrictions, but Mount Sinai was of so terrifying holiness that
people walked away. It is the presence of God on Mount Sinai, which turned it into a holy
mountain.
We still find one more wonderful type,
the pattern of the tabernacle that was given to Moses or the model of the
Temple of Solomon which was shown to David his father. In both cases, the
tabernacle and the temple had two parts inside, a front part called the holy
place, and another part inside the inside, the most holy place, or Holiest of all.
This section contained the Ark of the Covenant containing a golden pot that had
manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant (He.9).
These tables were the words of the covenant which God had written with His own
finger (EX.31,18;
34.1). So it was the Word of God in its holiness and purity, without
any man’s input. And the place where it dwelt was called the Holiest of all.
All this is the pattern of our
body, as the Bible calls us God's temple (1Co.3,16; 6,19 and
2Co.6, 16). The Word of God must occupy the inside of our
inside, the core of our being, which is our heart. We must be the tabernacle of
the Truth, the Word God writes himself without intermediary, using his own
finger in our heart. The presence of the Holy Word in our heart makes
it a pure heart. The heart in which God wrote his Word with His own finger must
belong to him, and him alone, and it is now the Most holy place. The
same instruction in connection with the burning bush applies: do not come nigh
and take off your shoes for the place where you stand is holy ground. The same
instruction in connection with Mount Sinai also applies: take heed that you
don’t climb up the mountain or touch the its edge. If we give our heart to God, then
theology, doctrines and religious precepts should stay away from our heart, it
is the Most holy place where the things of God cannot coexist with the things
of men.
Today, from outside the Lord is
knocking to try again to be allowed inside: "Behold, I stand at the door, and
knock: If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and
will sup with him, and he with me." Rev.3,20. This is just
horrible, the Lord has been cast outside his church he had purchased with his
own blood, and now has to negotiate readmission! The absence of Jesus in this
church makes it a Babylon church, an habitation of devils, the hold of every
foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird (Ap.18,2).
The same applies to the heart, which rejected the Truth. The Holy Spirit is a
dove and cannot coexist with garbage. The simple way to pare him out is to
introduce false teachings. His grace is still available for anyone who wants to
open the door of his heart, he will establish therein and the heart will be
cleansed, and he will see God.
If you feel blessed, share and pour out the same blessings.
