Mt 1 “21And
she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins.” God, the Father of the child who
was born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, gave him the name
Jesus. And, as each single name has a meaning, God explained the meaning of
this name: he will save his people from their sins.
Jesus is the Savior
announced since the time of Adam and Eve when they were still in the Garden of
Eden. All mankind fell, being delivered to the old serpent, and needed a
redeemer able to crush the head of the enemy and deliver them. God
has promised the seed of the woman, not of partners, not of a household or of a
family. The seed of the fallen man was already too weak to defeat the
devil who had already taken over. A pure seed was needed, i.e. that of God
himself, coming through the woman, especially that sin also came through the
woman.
This
salvation was also announced by the prophets of the Old Testament and expected
by all the saints. Job spoke with insurance: Jb
19 “25For
I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon
the earth.” And this Savior and Redeemer announced and
expected was none other than Jehovah (from the Tetragrammaton YHWH, from which
also derives YaHWeH according to either pronunciation) also called Eternal or
Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel. If the saints of the Old Testament
could not imagine salvation in any other, it is because the Lord had so
convinced them through his works, His Word and His revelation. He had saved them
from the bondage of Pharaoh (Exodus 6: 12), the Midianites (Judges
7: 7), the Philistines,
etc..
But the
Bible clearly tells us: Col 2 “17Which
are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” Indeed, in all these cases of salvation of
Israel from the clutches of his enemies by the Lord, the head of the enemy was
not crushed, so that all was not finished. It was simply winning battles, not the
war. The reality of the victory of the war was in the Messiah (Christ) promised
from Genesis. Also, we notice that in all these operations God sent men born of
partners: Moses in Egypt, Gideon in Midian, Samson among the Philistines, Saul,
David, etc. All these men were themselves in need of salvation, how then could
they save their like?
Who then
had to be this Messiah to achieve and accomplish for good the salvation and
eternal victory over the enemy? The Lord Almighty God cast his eyes in the
heavens and found no one worthy, he beheld the whole world, no one was found
worthy, he even visited the depths of the earth and no one was found worthy.
The Lord God Almighty had no choice because he could still not abandon man at
the mercy of the old serpent. He resolved: Hs
1 “7But I will have mercy upon the house
of Judah, and will save them by the
LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by
battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.” The Lord God Almighty, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob found
himself alone capable of performing the tasks of the Messiah, and resolved to
send to us, not Moses, Elijah, Samson, David, Solomon, etc., but the Lord our God.
All those
who had received the promise of the Messiah and waited, knew they were waiting
for salvation from the Lord Almighty God himself, as he had declared himself: Is 35 « 4Say
to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will
come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. » Those
who cannot receive the Word of God cannot understand the language of God. When
the Lord said, I will save them by the LORD their God, this may sound as if
there are two Eternals, or that Israel has two Gods. But it is not the issue,
and there is no confusion, but only the
language of the kingdom is only reserved for the children of the kingdom, and
they fully understand it: God will not use nor send anyone to save,
but he will come himself in person and save. Is 62 « 11Behold,
the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of
Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh;
behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.”
He insists
that he, and he alone is the Savior: Hs 13 “4Yet
I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but
me: for there is no saviour beside me.”
Is 43 « 11I,
even I, am the LORD; and beside me
there is no saviour.” This exclusivity of salvation in Yahweh, Peter
relayed it in the New Testament, after its fulfillment in Jesus, saying, Act 4 “12Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” The Lord opened his intelligence for him to
understand the scriptures and he recognized their right fulfillment. When God
announced that he would come, he also gave all the details of how he would come
and the sign by which those who are wise should recognize him: Is
7 « 14Therefore
the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and
bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. » This
word was literally fulfilled, Mt 1 “22Now all this was done, that it
might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23Behold,
a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call
his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
And that is
why the Lord Yahweh / Jehovah gave him the name of Jesus, in Hebrew Yehoshwa /
Yahshwa which is the compound Yeho-shwa or Yah-shwa, Yeho- or Yah- from Yehovah or Yahweh and Shwa which
means Savior. Jehovah/Yahweh Saviour
finally came, according to the prophetic promises he announced throughout the
Old Testament. He came to save his own, but his own people did not recognize
him. Jehovah/Yahweh Saviour or
Yehoshwa/Yahshwa or Jesus is the name of God as
Savior. That is why he said: (Jn 5) “43I am come in my Father’s name”. In the Old Testament Jehovah said, "beside me there is no salvation," and in the New Testament we read, "there is salvation in none other than Yehoshwa." The
Lord in the Old Testament spoke of the Lord God as if speaking of a different personage
and in the New Yéhoshwa spoke of the Father as if speaking to someone else.
His enemies
were completely confused by the language. We read this in Jn 8 : “24I
said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not
that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. 25Then said they unto him,
Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you
from the beginning,”
and in verse “27They
understood not that he spake to them of the Father.” Still another day, (Jn 10) “24Then
came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to
doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. » They sought the Lord spoke to them in their
own language. « 25Jesus
answered them, I told you, and ye believed not… 30I
and my Father are one. 37If I do not the works of my Father, believe
me not. 38But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works:
that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.” Messiah
or Christ should actually be Jehovah, the Father himself, implementing his
salvation mission. That is why, for the Jews who had this perfect
understanding, a man who would pass himself off as Christ / Messiah or Son of
God (without being, according to them) deserved death:
Jn 10 “33The Jews answered him,
saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that
thou, being a man, makest thyself God. … 36Say ye of him, whom the Father hath
sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the
Son of God?” To the Jews, Son of God means Jehovah / Yahweh
Lord Almighty God in a human body. Therefore saying, I am the Son of God, this implies:
I am the Lord God Almighty coming in flesh to save his people from their sins.
Seeing his simplicity, they could not give him credence, and sought to kill
him.
It is not only the Jews who were troubled
by the language of the Lord, when he spoke of the Father as someone separate.
One of his disciples, Philip could not control himself when Jesus told them
that they knew the Father and that they had seen him, (Jn 14) « 8Philip
saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us,”
then it is time Jesus clarified: “9Have I been so long time with you, and
yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;
and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”. In fact, Jesus wondered which other
Father he could show to Philip. The Father was in him, but he spoke of the
father as if he were speaking of someone else.
God is mysterious, his name is mysterious, and
his language is as mysterious. God even allowed his name of salvation covenant
to be translated into all the languages of the earth without retaining the
resonance of the meaning it conveys, which meaning must also remain a mystery
only to be revealed to the sons the kingdom. And the mystery was revealed:
Jesus (Yehoshwa / Yahshwa) we know today in the new covenant is Jehovah / Yahweh
that Moses saw in the old covenant. Abraham rejoiced to welcome him one day to
his tent, and they ate together, and he says, “before Abraham was, I AM,” (Jn
8 :56-58)
So without a doubt, Jehovah of the Old Testament is Jesus in the New,
He is the eternal God manifested in the flesh. This is why the Spirit says and insists (Act
4): “11This
is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head
of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is
none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Today we do not fight, nor pray, neither are
we saved in the name of Jehovah of Yahweh Elohim, El-shadai etc.., But we find
this whole fullness of the Godhead in Jesus the Christ (Col
2) “ 9For
in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily,” and it is God who has wanted it so: Col 1 « 19For
it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell. » If you, you do not want things to be so, you will end up hanging
yourself like Judas, because you do not have power to cause God to change his
will
If you feel blessed, share and pour out the
same blessings!
