"For what if some did
not believe? Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effet? God
forbid" Ro. 3:3-4.
Whether you believe it or not, no word of God will remain without effect, but
every word must be fulfilled literally as God has spoken, and this is due to
God's faithfulness. The unbelief of man cannot
make the Word of God fall to the
ground. Heaven and earth shall pass away but His Word will never pass away. Joshua
said unto the children of Israel: "And, behold, this day I am going way
of all the earth: and ye know in all your heart and in all your souls, that not
one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake
concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed
thereof." Jos. 23:14. God watches over His Word to fulfill it literally,
because he cannot lie.
Thus every word, every promise
given by God cannot fall to the ground or have no effect, but man can make the
Word of God of no effect against himself. In the time of Noah, God announced
the destruction of the earth by flood, and offered free salvation to all those
who would enter the ark of Noah. The world found it ridiculous. God did not
consider the multitude or unanimity of the world to renounce His Word. Thus,
salvation by the ark of Noah was beneficial only to eight people who obeyed the
voice of the LORD, but same salvation was ineffective for millions of human
beings who inhabited the earth and who had despised it: they had made it ineffective
against themselves. And the Lord tells us that the same thing will be
repeated on the day of his coming – even the time we are living.
In Numbers 16, we
read the story of the rebellion of Korah, Dathan and Abiram against Moses and
Aaron. While God had taken his people from Egypt to the Promised Land flowing
with milk and honey, namely the land of Canaan, to the rebels, the land flowing
with milk and honey was Egypt where Moses brought them from (v.13).
The
promise concerning the Promised Land was still in force before God and valid
for Israel, but was rendered ineffective against the rebels, so that
the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and grave greeted them alive. God
has taken us from the world to bring us to our heavenly home (Hé.
11:16), but during this pilgrimage there are some watching behind,
like Lot's wife, to admire the things that are in the world, and thus render
ineffective the action of God for them. God decided to save Lot and his home, on the
prayer of Abraham. He sent his two angels, but of the five people who were
recipients of this grace, one, even Lot's wife, made the divine mercy without
effect against herself (Genèse18).
There was a severe famine in
Samaria during the siege of Benhadad the king of Syria. God, remembering his
mercy, sovereignly decided to dismiss the famine (2 Kings 6:24 and 7).
Elisha, his prophet, gave a 'thus saith the Lord': "Tomorrow
about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two
measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria." Chapter 7 v.1.
The officer on whose hand the king leaned gave no credence to the Word of God.
But God’s resolution was decreed and could not fail because of his unbelief. The
Word was literally fulfilled as the man of God had spoken, but it was without
effect for the incredulous officer, as he was crushed at the door by the people
and died. He saw with his eyes the fulfillment of this word, but did
not enjoy.
Judas was always next to the Lord
and the other apostles. He was one of the twelve elect apostles, but
his election was rendered ineffective by himself, by betraying the Lord.
He listened to the teachings of the Lord, he operated miracles whenever the
Lord gave them this power, and when the disciples forsook the Lord after
hearing the doctrine of eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Christ, he still
persevered (John
chapter 6). However, despite all this perseverance, love of Truth
was not in his heart, but he sought after profit, "This he said, not that
he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare
what was put therein." Jn. 12:6. His election, all the time he
spent with the Lord, miracles he performed, the words he heard and his perseverance:
all of this was rendered ineffective because he had no love of Truth in him,
and he ended up hanging himself.
Whatever is has already been,
says Ecclesiastes, and God calls the past to account. Today, the great-grandsons
of Judas speak of him without knowing that they are criticizing their ancestor.
They have the same spirit, there is no love of Truth in them, they love
pleasure more than God and work for profit. They are willing to compromise with
the world over the Word of God when their interests are at stake. Just like
their patriarch, they make the Word of God vain against themselves.
"Let us therefore fear, lest,
a promise being left us of entering his rest, any of you should seem to come
short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit
them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it." He. 4:1-2.
God's promise is sure and certain, and its fulfillment is as certain as the
sunrise each morning. But it is useless for those in whose hearts it finds no
faith.
Thus, we can identify in all that
we have said the following factors by which man can make the Word of God
without effect against himself: (1) If the Word of God sounds to you
ridiculous, odd or useless, it is already without effect for you. (2) If you
see things contrary to their presentation in the Bible, if you're rebellious against
the order established by the Word of God in any field and your heart is turned
to the world and the things in the world, all the promises of God are void for
you. If you do not believe in the ‘thus saith the Lord,' for you, all the
promises of God are without effect. You'd be better off giving up the rest of
spiritual and religious exercises you undertake, because then they are just as
vain. (3) If you love money, fame and plebiscite, if you're willing to
compromise over the Word of God for other issues, the Word of God for you is
automatically void, and therefore are also vain your dedication, your call or
election, your perseverance, your endurance, your fasting and prayers.
But still another factor is shown
to us in the Gospels, "Thus have ye made the commandment of
none effect by your tradition." Mt. 15:6. Still today, as in
the days of the Pharisees, churches have their own traditions drawn from the
world, and with absolutely nothing to do with the 'Thus saith the Lord' "And
he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep
your own tradition. For Moses said...
But you say..." Mc. 7:9-10. They cancel the word
of God to give importance to their own tradition they have established
themselves. And here is iniquity, "God says ... But you say ..." Once
God has spoken, we should hold our peace and just believe.
God says, "The Lord our God
is one Lord" (De. 6:4), but you say "There are three
persons in God"; God says to the woman, "Your husband will rule over
you, he is your head and you will be bound to him as long as he lives" (Ge.
3:16, ICor. 11:3, Ep. 5:23, Ro. 7:2), but you say," You're
emancipated, you don’t need the husband's authorization", God says, "Let
women keep silence in the churches, I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to
usurp authority over the man" ( ICor. 14:34, ITim. 2:12), but
you say, "No, but the sister has got a ministry that builds us", God
says, "Wives, submit to your husbands in all things as to the Lord;
Husbands, love your wives, even to the supreme sacrifice, as Christ died for
the Church" (Ep. 5:22-29) (What better harmony can the world
offer to a household than this divine order?), but you say, "Parity: woman
is equal to man!" All those who thus nullify the Word of God in favor of
their current, doctrines or traditions, for them, the Word of God is ineffective,
useless and vain. They cannot enjoy the promises it gives.
Finally, another major factor to
make the Word of God of no effect to you is the fact of not fulfilling all
righteousness. When Jesus came to John the Baptist to be baptized, John
opposed arguing that it was he who needed to be baptized by Jesus. But he
answered...
"Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all
righteousness" Mt. 3:15. He knew that if he did not perform all
righteousness, all the prophecies about his person could have been rendered
ineffective. He says of the Pharisees and teachers of the law who had rejected
the baptism of John the Baptist "But the Pharisees and lawyers
rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him."
Lc. 7:30.
Many are those who do business
with the name of Jesus, whilst they have made void the power of God which saves
by that name, since they rejected repentance, baptism, and the remission of
sins which God was pleased to freely give to mankind in the name of Jesus. Anyone
who does not repent and is not baptized in Jesus' name nullifies against
himself the counsel of God concerning his salvation: he has not fulfilled all
righteousness. And therefore whatever else he undertakes in Jesus name is vain.
If you feel blessed, share and pour out the same blessings.
